Minors may no longer be entered on their parents’ passport but must travel with their own passport.
Before applying for the child’s passport minor’s passport, make sure that you have transcribed his or her birth certificate at the Italian commune.
If you have not done so, please update your family’s civil status as soon as possible. Write an e-mail to: cons.dar@esteri.it to check what needs to be done.
The following must be present at the appointment also the minor: book an appointment through https://prenotami.esteri.it/ .
On the day of the appointment you will have to present the following documentation the application form for the issuance of the new passport duly completed and signed by both parents or by one of them with the consent of the other parent.
A photograph of the child in the format commonly available at the automatic machines for Italian passports, with a white background, conforming to ICAO international standards (see example).
In the case of infants, it is possible to take a photo also at home holding the child lying down on a white background, taking care to illuminate the face well.
an identification document of both the parents with photo and signature (e.g. identity card or passport);
an identification document of the child (if available);
the child’s passport even if expired or deteriorated;
the cash sum of 309,000.00 Tanzanian shillings (see consular rates);
in case of loss/stolen passport valid passport, a copy of the lost/stolen report is required to the local authorities.
Attention! To apply for a passport for a minor it is essential that both parents give their consent by completing and signing this document.
Expressing one’s consent is also necessary in the case of unmarried, separated or divorced couples and even if the minor children already hold individual passports. As an alternative to the parents’ or guardian’s handwritten signature on the passport application form, it is possible to sign an ‘Act of Assent’ for the issuance of minor passports. The following provisions apply:
If the other parent is an Italian citizen or a citizen of an EU State temporarily or permanently not present in Tanzania, the Atto di assenso signed by him/her in original at the Questura of residence will be required, together with a copy of his/her identity document.
If the other parent is NOT an Italian or EU citizen, as the Italian legislation on self-certification is not applicable, he or she will have to come with you to the appointment and sign the act of assent in front of the Consulate staff, who will authenticate the signature. Alternatively, ‘the act of assent’ may be drawn up at a Tanzanian notary Tanzanian notary; in this case, the notary’s seal/signature must be recognized by the competent legal affairs office of the Tanzanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If, on the other hand, he is in Italy or in another country abroad, he must sign the deed of consent in the presence of a Public Official in Italy or at a competent Italian Embassy or Consulate.
In the event of the death of the other parent,
you must bring with you an original copy of the death certificate. If the death occurred in a country other than Tanzania or Italy, the death certificate must only be presented with a legalized translation into Italian.
If it is not possible for you to obtain the consent of the other parent, the passport may only be issued for reasons that must be proven by solid grounds and adequate documentation and following an appropriate decree issued by the tutelary judge.
The Head of the Consular Chancellery exercises the functions of tutelary Judge for minors registered with AIRE residing in the Dar es Salaam district.
If, on the other hand, the child is not registered with AIRE, the Juvenile Court of the Minors of the municipality of residence.
