Procedure
for passport application
If you are registered with AIRE, your marital status
is up to date and your last passport was issued by this
Consular Office, you can book an appointment at https://prenotami.esteri.it/.
If your last passport was issued by another authority (check page 4 of the passport), before issuing your passport the Embassy will have to request specific authorizations and authorization to issue the passport from the Italian Questura or the Embassy or Consulate of the place where it was issued. It is therefore requested to send in advance by e-mail to cons.dar@esteri.it a scan of the completed application form, the passport (only page 2 with personal data and page 4 with the specification of the issuing authority) and the Tanzanian residence visa, in order to request the necessary clearance.
On the day of the appointment you must present yourself at the Embassy with the following documentation:
The application form for the issuance of the new passport duly completed;
A photograph in the format commonly available at the passport machines, with a white background, conforming to ICAO international standards (see example).
Not will not be accepted photos taken with a smartphone or photos that do not corresponding to the applicant’s current appearance.
expiring or expired passport;
the corresponding passport if you have other citizenships;
the cash sum in Tanzania Shillings corresponding to 309,000.00Tsh (see consular rates).
In case of loss/stolen passport, you will need a copy of the lost/stolen report made to the local authorities. You can file a report of loss report at any Tanzanian police station, and you will receive a declaration of theft/loss. Keep the document you receive in a safe place to show it when you go to the Embassy when applying for your new passport.
If you are NOT a Tanzanian resident or are NOT registered with AIRE, the Consular Office may issue an ETD (Emergency Travel Document) to allow re-entry into Italy or the EU Member State of residence.
For further information, you can call the

Useful information
If your passport is expiring or has already expired, you can ask the Embassy to issue a new passport. You can do this no earlier than six months after the date of expiry of the passport you are in your possession.
If your passport book is damaged, illegible, or no longer has blank pages, you may contact the Embassy to check how to proceed in order to obtain a new passport before the natural expiry date of the one you hold.
If you are planning to travel to a country that requires your passport to have a residual validity of at least six months for entry, it is advisable, in order to avoid unpleasant surprises at the airport on departures or arrivals, to make arrangements in advance and apply for a new passport.
In general, once you have obtained your new passport, you will not have to notify the Tanzanian authorities. However, as a precautionary measure only, we recommend that you take with you on your first
travel outside Tanzanian territory, also your old, cancelled passport with your Tanzanian entry stamp and residence permit.
Regarding your stay in Tanzania we would like to remind you that the Embassy has no competence in the matter of renewing residence permits issued by the Tanzanian government and that it is your responsibility to be in order with the procedures for the renewal of your residence permit.
If you have acquired Italian citizenship in Italy or at another diplomatic/consular representation and you wish to apply for your first passport, it is necessary that you also present us with a document proving the conferment of citizenship (certificate of citizenship/corresponding copy of the swearing-in protocol).
