Today, 7 January, we celebrate the National Tricolor Day. The celebration was established in 1996 to commemorate the birth of the Italian flag in Reggio Emilia on 7 January 1797. The choice of the colors of the flag was the work of Giovanni Compagnoni, enlightenment and councilor of the Cispadana Republic close to the Jacobin ideas, who took on the tricolor in imitation of the first ideals of the French Revolution, replacing the blue of the French flag with green, a symbol of natural rights of equality.
