MISSION TO THE COMOROS

Ambassador Marco Lombardi went on a mission to the Comoros Islands from 14 to 19 March last. The purpose of the visit was to present the credentials to President Azali Assoumani and to meet the Italian community residing in the country. On the morning of March 15, Lombardi, accompanied by the Consular Correspondent, Dr. Saverio Grillone, present in the archipelago for more than forty years first with the Italian Cooperation and then with Caritas and engaged in the fight to eradicate leprosy in the country, handed over the letters to the President of the Comoros. During a ceremony dedicated to the utmost sobriety, an overview was given of the excellent performance of bilateral relations between Italy and the Comoros. President Assoumani asked the Italian diplomat to extend his sincere greeting to President Mattarella. The credentials occasion also provided the opportunity to present and promote Rome’s candidacy to host EXPO 2030 at the highest level.
