ITALIAN LANGUAGE WEEK IN TANZANIA

In the framework of the Embassy of Italy promotional activity in Tanzania, from 18 to 23 October, 2021, it was held the Italian language week. The most relevant events of the week were the celebrations for the 700 anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri the “father of the Italian language”. The Embassy of Italy in Dar es Salaam, in cooperation with the Embassy of Switzerland in Tanzania, published on Tanzanian newspapers articles on Dante Alighieri and thanks to QR code technology allowed readers to download on their devices the English and Kiswahili versions of “Divina Commedia”. On October 22, 2021, Ambassador Marco Lombardi hosted a meeting on the status of Italian language in Tanzania with all the relevant stakeholders. Vice Secretary General of Dante Alighieri Society, Dr. Andrea Vincenzoni and Neema Nyerere also joined the meeting. All participants agreed on the need of assisting Tanzanian that are working in tourism industry to learn Italian. It was stressed the importance to help young Italians to learn our language in Tanzania. It was agreed to work with Radio Maria for creating an Italian language program that could be useful and entertaining for a wide Tanzanian public. All the participants to the meeting wished the creation of a Dante Alighieri Society Branch in Tanzania.
