No more espresso in plastic cups. The Permanent Representation of Italy to the United Nations in New York has become a “plastic-free” space. A small contribution from our diplomats, part of a wider goal to make the United Nations and Italian offices abroad more ecofriendly. Foreign Affairs has been at the forefront since years with the “Farnesina Verde” project (Green Farnesina, from the nickname used for our HQ in Rome). The Ministry has been promoting better use of natural resources, has installed solar panel of the palace roof, has eliminated plastic bottles and disposable cutleries in its canteen, has encouraged employees to use public transportation, bicycles and the stairways instead of the elevators, and more initiatives, such as the campaign to reduce the waste of electric lighting in public spaces. The change in New York was launched by Minister for Foreign Affairs Di Maio, Italian Permanent Representative Zappia, Prime Minister Conte and Minister for Environment Costa, here in the picture.
