New procedures for the enrolment of international students in the Italian Universities

The Italian Ministry for University and Research has published the new instructions concerning the procedures for the enrolment of extra-EU students into the advanced education courses in Italy for the 2020/2021 academic year. The above mentioned instructions are available at the following web address: https://www.studiare-in-italia.it/studentistranieri/

Following the main changes:

  • Given the current emergency regulations issued by the Italian and EU Governments regarding the prevention and control of COVID-19, the presence of international students in Italy may be, if necessary, substituted by distant learning activities in the beginning of the academic year.
  • There is no more the strict deadline to make the University pre-enrolment, which may be carried out during the summer and the autumn, according to the deadlines established by each University and to be ended by the coming 30th November.
  • The pre-enrolment procedure shall be submitted online directly by each student to the chosen University, without passing anymore through the diplomatic and consular offices in the Country. The electronic pre-enrolment shall be submitted through the new website UNIVERSITALY (www.universitaly.it) and it is compulsory to be enrolled in each course. However, for the 2020/2021 academic year, this new enrolment procedure is not applicable to the following courses: High Education Institutes for Arts, Music and Dance (AFAMO), Advanced Schools for Linguistic Mediators (SSML), the Specialization Institutes in Psychotherapy and the Technical Specialization Courses Post-Diploma organized by the Advanced Technical Institutes (ITS). Therefore, the pre-enrolment to the above mentioned courses for the coming academic year shall be done with the old paper procedure.
