Italy re-elected in the Council of the International Telecommunications Union

During the Plenipotentiary Conference of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which took place from 29 October to 16 November in Dubai, Italy was re-elected to the Council of the Organization with 168 votes. After a tight competition, our country has obtained the second highest number of votes in the world, equal to 95% of the voting countries, and the first in the Western European Region, far exceeding the result achieved in 2014.

The success of Italy's candidature, a founding member of the ITU, testifies to the particular contribution that Italy has made to the telecommunications sector, thanks to an intense activity of promotion and diffusion of the telecommunications networks through the new information technologies and of communication. The re-election is the result of the widespread campaign carried out in recent months through the diplomatic network abroad and is also attributable to the active and continuous collaboration between the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Today's vote recognizes the significant and continuous commitment made in the radiocommunications and telecommunications systems legislation.
