CURRICULUM VITAE
ROBERTO MENGONI

Born in Bucharest (Romania) on March 29, 1968, Roberto Mengoni obtained in March 1994 a degree in Political Science – International Relationship at University of Florence.
He studied and worked in Mexico, Japan and India before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy in December 1997.
During his diplomatic career he served in the:
• December 1997-September 1998: training in the Diplomatic Institute in Rome.
• October 1998-March 1999 Directorate General for Human Resources in Rome, where he was involved in particular in the handling of legal and disciplinary matters of the personnel.
• April 1999-August 2000: Directorate General for Political Affairs in Rome (Asian Bureau), then Directorate General for Asia, Oceania, the Pacific and Antarctica, where he worked with a particular focus on the countries of Eastern Asia: China, Taiwan, Japan and Korean peninsula.
• September 2000-September 2004: Embassy of Italy in Seoul as Second and later First Secretary, mainly commercial and consular affairs.
• September 2004-June 2007: Embassy of Italy in Canberra as First Secretary, as a coordinator for consular and social affairs.
• July 2007-September 2008: promoted to Counsellor and served also as Deputy Head of Mission in the same posting. The Embassy in Canberra had also accreditation to Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Micronesia and Nauru.
• September 2008-October 2012: Directorate General for Human Resources, Head of Section, dealing with the legal and economic status of MFA personnel.
• October 2012-June 2016: Directorate General for Human Resources, promoted as Head of Office, responsible for the legal and economic status of locally hired staff of the Italian diplomatic, consular and cultural network abroad.
• Since June 22, 2016, Ambassador of Italy in Tanzania, with accreditation to the Union of the Comoros.

In 2007 Mr. Mengoni has been decorated with the award “Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic”.
Languages: Italian (mother tongue), English and Spanish (fluent), French (intermediate), Japanese (elementary).
Hobbies: cycling, running, writing.
